The challenge
Two previous contractors had laid new felt over the existing deck. Both failed within three years, because the deck had been built dead flat — water sat in the middle and found every joint eventually.
What we did
We stripped back to the deck and fitted tapered firrings to create a genuine 1:60 fall to a new outlet on the low side. Warm-roof insulation went in above the deck, then a single EPDM sheet bonded across the whole area with no field joints at all.
Result
Flood-tested on completion and dry through two winters. The owners have since had the kitchen ceiling replastered, which they had been putting off for six years.
