Slate is the traditional covering across most of Cork and it outlasts everything else on the roof — which is why nail sickness is so common. The slate is usually fine and the fixings have gone. Where a roof is worth saving we salvage and re-lay sound slates and make up the shortfall with a matched batch.
How we do it
- 01
Match
Existing slate identified by size, thickness and quarry where possible.
- 02
Set out
Gauge and lap calculated for the pitch and exposure.
- 03
Lay
Slates holed and fixed, verges and valleys cut in.
- 04
Finish
Ridge bedded or dry-fixed, flashings dressed.
